Privacy

What we keep

For each conversation:

• Which mode it was, when it started and ended, and each participant's IP address.
• All text messages, with the time they were sent.
• A voice and video recording of each participant, starting from the moment they press start. Time spent waiting for a match is recorded as well.

Access

• Moderators can watch conversations, and people waiting for a match, while they happen, and replay recordings later. You aren't notified when they do.
• The authorities receive data when we report illegal content or when we're legally required to provide it.
• No one else. We don't sell data or use it for advertising.

Retention

Recordings, messages and IP addresses are deleted automatically 30 days after the conversation. Anything we have reported to the authorities, or that is part of an ongoing investigation, may be kept for longer.

Why

Without records, there's no way to follow up on a report, keep someone who harasses people away, or help the police when a crime has happened. That's our legitimate interest in processing this data.

What your match can do

Your match sees and hears what you share and can record their screen without us knowing. Please keep that in mind.

Cookies and analytics

Stranger doesn't use cookies for chatting. An analytics service counts page visits and tells us which pages are used, which helps us improve the site.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you can ask for a copy of your data or for its deletion. Since there are no accounts, we can only locate your conversations by IP address and approximate date and time. Send us both and we'll look them up.
